The company was founded in the first half of the 19th century by a glassblower named Michael Nightmann. It specialized in making glass and crystal glassware. Since the company’s inception about one hundred and fifty years ago, it changed a few owners and grew from a small glassblowing facility into a world’s major manufacturer of crystal glass.
Elegance and innovative design at a decent price – that’s what describes this brand best. Two types of material are used to produce the ware: crystal glass and highly technological lead-free crystal glass – CRYSTALYN. Nachtmann products combine functional design and exceptional German quality. It’s for a good reason that they are in high demand all around the world, and major global retailers proudly display Nachtmann’s vases, candleholders and wine glasses in their stores.
The technologically advance manufacture of tableware and objects for interior design – makes Nachtmann a serious competitor to other European brands. It will suffice to say, that today in Europe, which has always set trends in the field, there remain hardly any factories manufacturing glassware or crystal glass. You could count such facilities on the fingers of one hand.
The abundance of crystal glassware brands on the market shouldn’t confuse you – only three or four factories in Europe still actually manufacture them. Nachtmann history in numbers:
1834 – the F.X. Nachtmann company was founded.
1900 – the company is sold to Zacharias Frank, who moves its headquarters to Neustadt an der Waldnaab, where the glass manufacturing facilities are located to this day.
1945 – the facilities, destroyed during the war, are being renovated. Manufacture of lead crystal is being organized in Neustadt and Riedlhütte.
1983 – the construction of Nachtmann’s third, highly technological manufacturing facility begins in Weiden.
1990 – Nachtmann buys a crystal glass factory SPIEGELAU.
1995 – F.X. Nachtmann Crystal AG acquires stakes in Rosenthal AG – a crystal glass factory in Amberg. Up to 1997, NACHTMANN had been holding about 90% of shares in Rosenthal AG.
2001 – Nachtmann’s manufacturing facilities are certified according to the DIN ISO 14001 international standard for environmental management.
2004 – on September 17th Riedel Glas acquires 100% shares in Nachtmann Crystal AG.
